Have A Safe Halloween In 2020

Halloween is this weekend! While several of the normal activities have to take a rain check due to the current pandemic, there is still plenty you can do with your family to celebrate the holiday. So, the staff here at Santa Fe Express Plumbing & Drain came up with a few fun, safe things you can do with your family to celebrate All Hallow’s Eve this year. And, from us to you, Happy Halloween!

Watch A Few Halloween-Themed Or Scary Movies

While horror movies are good fun on Halloween for us adults, they can be a bit much for teenagers and younger children. Instead, watch a few Halloween-themed movies with your kids this year. It’s always safe and fun to stay home, whip up a few themed treats, and watch a good movie with the family, and it just might distract your kids from the lack of trick-or-treating this year. Here is a list of family-friendly Halloween movies you might consider watching this year:

  • Hocus Pocus (1993), PG
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966), Not Rated
  • The Witches (1990), PG
  • Casper (1995), PG
  • Casper Meets Wendy (1998), G
  • The Addams Family (1991), PG-13
  • Halloweentown (1998), TV-G
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), PG

Make Jack-O-Lanterns Or Do Some Halloween Arts And Crafts

One time-honored way to celebrate the holiday is by carving fun and spooky jack-o-lanterns. Most grocery stores sell pumpkins, and there’s likely a pumpkin patch near your home where you can pick up a few of the festive gourds to carve with your kids. However, make sure you supervise your kids while carving and handling all the sharp instruments yourself (if your kids are too young to handle knives and carving tools safely).

Want To Get Outside? Create A Halloween Scavenger Hunt!

One safe way to get outside, see the festive Halloween decorations, and still stay safe from the pandemic is to create a fun scavenger hunt for your kids. In safe spots throughout your neighborhood and with permission from your neighbors, hide some clues that point your kids towards the next clue in the hunt. Then, when they’re successful, reward them with some Halloween candy or another fun prize of some kind.

If you choose to do this, make sure you get permission from your neighbors, and only hide clues a safe distance from people’s front door and yards. Make sure you supervise your kids throughout and make sure you all wear your masks and maintain a safe distance from other people.

Have A Virtual Costume Contest!

One of the best parts about Halloween is dressing up in the fun and spooky costumes. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, going out and showing off your fun costumes isn’t really possible this year. Instead, use Google Hangouts or another virtual meeting platform to host your very own virtual costume party! You can offer prizes for the winners, and you and your kids will get to see and hear other people.
